X-rays, a Double Edged Sword
More than five million radiology studies are performed annually in Sweden. X-ray images contribute to the diagnoses of life-threatening diseases and bring about improvements in health, quality of life and lifespan. According to the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority up to three hundred people develop cancer every year caused by radiation from imaging procedures. Studies have revealed that doses vary widely between equipment and facilities. These findings suggest that doses can often be lowered to reduce the harmful effects without jeopardising diagnostic quality.

- Intulo is used as a regional radiation dose register for the County of Skåne in Sweden. Over a hundred image acquisition modalities from multiple hospitals automatically send radiation dose data to Intulo using DICOM MPPS. All the data is made accessible for the entire region’s radiation protection work.
