PACS Migration talk at The Royal College of Radiologists

Jonathan Kruger held a presentation about PACS-migration for the RCR Imaging Informatics Group anual spring meeting in London.

Below you will find the moderator’s summary and comments:

“Excellent presentation, with pearls of wisdom for those serious about moving away from LSP contracts. Jonathans company specialises in DICOM data migration from 1 PACS vendor to another. Specialist companies like Krucom etc are usually employed by the new PACS vendor for data migration purposes (not directly by the customer like NHS Trusts). There are some very practical advice in Jonathan’s presentation.

  1. When writing out your new contract ensure that process of migrating data at the end of new contract is included.
  2. Start thinking early.
  3. You will need to run 2 PACS systems for some time in tandem –be prepared.
  4. A question was asked from the audience–”what if the old vendor becomes hostile”. Answer was that it is unlikely—as it is a small world and everyone gets to know!
  5. Most of LSP PACS data is clean due to use of DMWL [DICOM Modality Worklist].

Message is loud & clear start early & plan this well of you are serious about moving out of the LSP contracts.”
