Automated transfer of study data
Krucom Prefetcher is a solution for automated transfer
of DICOM studies between PACS, workstations and other DICOM
destinations. Flexible routing capabilities ensure that
relevant study data is made accessible at the right place
at the right time.
Features
- Studies can automatically be forwarded or pre-fetched
to one or more destinations.
- Prefetch is triggered by either DICOM Modality Worklist
or recently performed studies.
- Scheduling of when pre-fetching or forwarding shall
occur.
- Relevant studies are transferred to their correct destination
by comparing the DICOM metadata to configurable routing
criteria.
- The routing criteria can be tailored and fine-tuned
to suite even the most demanding workflow scenarios.
Two types of trigger methods are supported:
- Prefetch: DICOM Modality Worklist is used to trigger
the transfers.
- Auto-route: A source archive is queried for new studies
and recently performed studies trigger the transfers.
Prefetch
Prefetcher automatically retrieves existing studies associated
with a patient prior to a scheduled examination. The prefetch
is automatically triggered by the scheduled worklist. Using
the DICOM Query/Retrieve services, studies can be obtained
from practically any DICOM source archive e.g. PACS.

The prefetch functionality consists of four activities:
1. Acquire Worklist
A list of scheduled patients is acquired from the scheduling
system e.g. using DICOM Modality Worklist.
2. Query Source Archives
One or more source archives are queried for all studies
associated to the scheduled patients. The results are added
to a study list.
3. Query Destination Device
Kru Prefetch checks whether any of the listed studies already
exist in the destination device. These studies do not need
to be transferred and are therefore removed from the study
list.
4. Study Transfer
The Query/Retrieve Move service is used to transfer studies
from the source archives to the destination device. The
study’s scheduled time is used to prioritise the transfer
order.
Auto-Route
Prefetcher can automatically route performed studies to
another predefined destination.

The auto route functionality is carried out as follows:
1. Query for Performed Studies
A list of performed studies is acquired from the source
archive.
2. Query Destination Device
Kru Prefetch checks whether any of the listed studies already
exist in the destination device. These studies do not need
to be transferred and are therefore removed from the study
list.
3. Study Transfer
The Dicom Query/Retrieve Move service is used to transfer
studies from the source archives to the destination device.
The study’s scheduled time is used to prioritise the transfer
order.
